About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of PCU RN experience License: Current RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS preferred Must-Have: Travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff (acute care) RN experience. First-time travelers must be separated for one year if previously a permanent staff member. Description: This position involves caring for patients in a Cardiac Stepdown unit. The unit has 24-25 beds depending on patient assignment. Patients include those recovering from surgery, respiratory failure, and various medical conditions. The nurse will manage a patient load typically of 1:3-4. Common procedures and patient management tasks include titrating cardiac drips and insulin drips. Skills in managing central lines, chest tubes, and tracheostomies are required. Nurses must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Support staff includes CNAs and charge nurses available during shifts. The nurse will be required to work every other weekend with a mandatory schedule of four days one week and three days the next week. Holiday work includes two out of three major holidays. Travelers should have the appropriate skills for managing cardiac patients and relevant medical devices. The unit culture is diverse and welcoming to travelers.
