Contract | Night Shift (4x12 Hours, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | 13–20 week contracts available | Onsite

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry, identify and manage dysrhythmias, and utilize remote telemetry monitoring
  • Manage a diverse patient population including diagnoses such as diabetes, CHF, sepsis, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
  • Perform and maintain vascular access including peripheral IVs, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and phlebotomy; administer blood products and manage drip medications including heparin, insulin, and PCA
  • Provide wound care, ostomy management, feeding tube care, chest tube management, and non-invasive airway support including BiPAP/CPAP and high-flow nasal cannula
  • Participate in float assignments to other units as needed and fulfill storm/hurricane team obligations during catastrophic events or mass casualty incidents

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
  • Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg or Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience
  • Current BLS certification
  • NIHSS certification
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias; must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
  • Ability to work every other weekend, a minimum of 2 of 3 major holidays, and no block scheduling (weekend blocks excepted)

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • ACLS certification; experience with on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI care, and IV insulin protocols
  • Experience with tracheostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, port access and management, arterial blood gas interpretation, and surgical drain management
  • Background in bariatric surgery, CVA care, substance withdrawal management, or pre/post thoracic surgery
  • Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital background, and proficiency with electronic documentation systems including Pyxis
