Key Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for cardiac and general medical patients including post cardiac cath, AFib, CHF, stable MI, pacemaker insertion, and medical overflow patients.
- Administer and titrate cardiac drips including insulin drips, Precedex, nitroglycerin, and Cardizem; monitor patients on BiPAP.
- Operate and monitor GE telemetry equipment, IV pumps, glucometers, and computers; document care using EPIC EMR.
- Maintain patient safety, uphold patient rights, and ensure confidentiality of patient information in accordance with facility standards.
- Coordinate patient care in conjunction with other departments and evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers.
- Adhere to weekend and call requirements as directed by the facility; float to other units as required.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license; must meet eligibility criteria for licensure in the state of Missouri or currently hold Missouri licensure.
- Minimum 2+ years of Stepdown or ICU experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) only.
- NIHSS certification required.
- Demonstrated competency with insulin drips, Precedex, titrating nitroglycerin, Cardizem, and BiPAP.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for assignments running November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for post-operative surgical patients and trauma patients in a step-down environment.
- Flexible, dependable, and hardworking with strong teamwork skills; ability to adapt to a dynamic cardiac med-surg unit.
