Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department Profession: RN Specialty: RN - ER Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Must-Have: Must have EPIC experience Description: The Registered Nurse serves as a professional nurse responsible for a group of patients during a designated shift. The nurse prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process that aligns with the medical plan of care. Care provided is based on input from the patient and significant others. Collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team is essential. Delivery of patient care covers all age groups, including neonatal, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Teaching and discharge planning needs are incorporated into the overall care plan. Certain aspects of patient care delivery may be delegated to other nursing staff based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) and experience in an acute care facility. Licenses and certifications such as Registered Nurse (RN) and Basic Life Support (BLS) are mandatory. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required at the time of hire. Demonstrated competency in Dysrhythmia during orientation is required for certain departments. Essential functions include utilizing the nursing process to assess patients, design and implement an individualized plan of care, and evaluate the effectiveness of the plan. Plans should be modified as necessary while considering age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients. Collaboration with other disciplines is crucial to formulate the plan of care. Knowledge of pharmacology is essential when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy. Patient and family education must be provided in all phases of care delivery. Assessment of patient knowledge and planning appropriate learning activities are required. Emergency situations must be handled calmly, following established protocols. Accountability for problem-solving and clinical decision-making is expected. Ensuring continuity of care entails processing and following through on physician's orders. Prioritization in providing patient care and the ability to respond to changes is necessary. The nurse acts as the patient’s advocate, ensuring rights are preserved. Delegation of responsibilities to nursing assistants and student nurses is based on their clinical competence. Each decision and action taken must be accountable. Registered nursing practice must comply with the state's Nurse Practice Act. Effective communication with patients, families, staff, physicians, and coworkers is essential. Documentation of assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided to patients is required. Technical aspects of patient care must adhere to established policies and procedures. Administration of medications and IVs must consider age-specific needs. Emergency procedures, including CPR and patient response assessment, must be performed. Safe use of medical equipment and other patient care devices is mandatory. Additional job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
