About the Position
Job Title: Surgical Nursing/Orthopedic Staff RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical Nursing/Orthopedic Duration: 8 weeks Shift: 7A-7P Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years required, 5 years preferred License: RN license required Certifications: CPR, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, EKG required Must-Have: Travel Experience Required Description: Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process within established standards and practices for assigned patients. Assesses and reassesses young adult, adult, and elderly patients and applies the nursing process. Demonstrates basic competency in specialized procedures and equipment. Provides pre and post-operative care for various surgical procedures including general, bariatric, orthopedic, trauma, neurosurgical, and genitourinary. Implements pain management strategies. Manages chest tube care and insertion. Administers care for PEG, G-tube, and J-tube. Handles traction and drainage care including percutaneous, Sump, Jackson Pratt, and Hemovac systems. Administers medications and specialized IV drips and titration. Performs IV access and related tasks including testing and transfusion therapy. Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity while maintaining confidentiality. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as a patient advocate. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan. Interacts professionally with patients and families, involving them in the care plan. Regularly reviews, revises, and updates the plan of care. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning. Supervises other healthcare staff involved in patient care and allocates work accordingly. Assists physicians with procedures as needed. Responds promptly to workload changes to ensure optimal productivity. Participates in performance improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes. Functions as a preceptor to orient new employees. Enhances professional growth through education programs and staff meetings. Maintains operation of patient care equipment and ensures an adequate supply of materials. Demonstrates flexibility and organization while functioning under stress. Meets all departmental specific competencies. Performs housekeeping duties and assists with patient transport when necessary. Adheres to dress code and safety guidelines. Performs other related duties as assigned. Serves as team leader and role model for other staff members.
