About the Position

Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of MedSurg experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Skills in tracheostomy care, chest tube management, IV starts, wound care, cardiac rhythm interpretation Description: RN - MedSurg/Tele position available. This is a 12-hour day shift role with guaranteed hours. The facility has a total of 885 licensed beds and is a Level 1 Trauma designation teaching hospital. The unit has 20 beds, divided into two areas. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of MedSurg experience. First-time travelers are not accepted for this position. Common patient diagnoses include CHF, COPD, kidney and liver issues, GI problems, respiratory issues, CIWA patients, infections, and wounds. While mostly medical patients are seen, other service lines may admit patients as well. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5. Required skills include management of trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, and drains. Experience with non-titrating drips such as Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix is required; experience with Cardizem and Amiodarone is preferred but can be taught. Support staff includes certified nursing assistants for each area and a charge nurse who may take patients if needed. Please note that phlebotomy and respiratory therapy services are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is handled with bedside monitors and a central monitoring station. The electronic medical record system is EPIC, with Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell for medication dispensing. Floating may occur within the scope of practice throughout the facility. The unit culture is supportive and focused on patient care and teamwork. Scrub color is royal blue.
