About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Evenings Mid Shifts, weekends as needed, first to float Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, Preferred ENPC Must-Have: 1 year of Emergency Room experience Some trauma experience (Motor Vehicle Accidents, Gunshot Wounds, Stabbings, etc.) Triage experience 2-3 travel assignments successfully completed at different locations (not extensions) Description: This is a Level 3 Trauma unit with a focus on high reliability, customer service, and zero harm. The team is highly organized and dedicated to patient care. The unit has 25 beds arranged in 2.5 zones, with 3 triage rooms and 3 trauma bays. There is a dedicated area for hazardous materials and a flood tent available for mass casualty situations. Fast Track rooms are available and utilized as needed. The average wait time for patients is around 90 minutes from admission order to transfer for inpatient care, with maximum hold times for patients typically ranging from 4-8 hours. Psych patients are admitted if they require inpatient care, but higher acuity patients are transferred out. There are 2 designated safer rooms for psychiatric patients. Security is present in-house 24/7, located within the unit. On average, 109 patients are treated daily. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4, with designated staffing goals. The designated zones have 3 RNs and 1 CNA per zone. Common patient diagnoses include abdominal pain, diabetes management, hypertension, STEMIs, NSTEMIs, stroke, and prioritized traumas. Nurses must be able to titrate critical drips and manage procedural sedation for both adults and pediatrics. Staffing includes 1-4 physicians along with physician assistants and nurse practitioners. The charge nurse may take a patient assignment, which is more common during night shifts. Certified Nursing Assistants are available, but may float throughout the unit as needed. Job duties include performing 12 Lead EKGs and providing support to the department. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 for respiratory treatments and equipment management. Nurses are required to interpret telemetry and manage their own patients' telemonitoring. Transport for imaging services is readily available, but nurses are expected to manage acute transports. Registered Nurses are responsible for blood draws during IV starts. Scheduling allows for flexibility, with a template that typically accommodates days off every 3-4 weeks. Weekend requirements generally involve working every other weekend. There is a possibility of being asked to be on call, with callback pay available if needed. Floating to other units is not required but may occur if assignments demand support. The dress code includes wearing navy blue scrubs. There is a maximum of 5 days of requested time off per contract.
