About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 18 months License: Must have an active nursing license prior to start date. Certifications: ACLS and BCLS required Must-Have: Strong cardiac and post-operative heart experience Description: Call-ins: If a traveler calls in for a contracted shift, the traveler is expected to make up the day during the pay period if working a 0.9 FTE. If a 0.9 FTE and unable to make up during the pay period, then the shift will be added at the end of the traveler contract. If a 1.2 FTE, any call-in shifts will be added to the end of the contract. Weekends: Travelers are expected to work every other weekend per their contract. Pending operational needs, consecutive weekends may be needed based on the greatest need. Charge coverage: Pending operational requirements, unit charge nurse responsibilities may be needed with provided training and resources. First-time travelers are accepted. Local candidates are not accepted. Skillset Requirements: Level 1 or level 2 trauma experience, telemetry, IV start, and titration of cardiac drips. Floating Requirements: Travelers may be expected to float to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) with resources provided if needed. Refusal to float may result in termination of the contract. Staffing Ratios: 1:3-5 based on acuity. Unit Information: Post-cardiac surgery, post-vascular surgery. Needs strong cardiac and post-operative heart experience. This is a mixed unit; travelers may care for Med-Surg patients as well. Candidates must have proficient post-cardiac and post-vascular surgery experience and will be on multiple drips. VAD patients will not be assigned to travelers. No first-time ICU travelers are accepted who haven’t traveled to PCU with a ratio of up to 4. Floating is 100% required of all travelers; candidates will float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals. Special procedures and unit details: Candidates need to be proficient in cardiac telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and starting and maintaining IVs. The patient demographic includes adults and geriatrics. All required certifications must be valid and in hand prior to the start date. Medical or religious vaccine exemptions will be accepted with a doctor's note provided. Consecutive contract policy applies. Before applying as a traveler, current or past staff must be away for a designated break of 12 months. Candidates must work two out of three major holidays. Background policy should be noted prior to submission.
