About the Position

Job Title

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Wilmington, NC

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | Every other weekend required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Monitor and interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias, including remote monitoring and on-unit telemetry management
  • Manage a broad range of patient diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
  • Perform and maintain vascular access including peripheral IVs, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and phlebotomy; administer blood products and medications including heparin, insulin, and PCA
  • Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and oral suctioning
  • Float to a nearby campus as required and participate in storm, hurricane, and disaster response teams as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Active NC or Compact RN license (pending license acceptable for submission)
  • Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg or MS/Telemetry experience
  • BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation and management, wound care/wound vac, chest tube management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, and isolation/PPE protocols
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Must be available to work holidays (minimum 2 of 3 major holidays per contract)

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • ACLS certification; experience with post angiogram, post cardiac surgery, post MI, IV insulin protocols, tracheostomy care, ABG interpretation, and pre/post thoracic surgery
  • Experience with bariatric surgery, continuous bladder irrigation, port access/management, CVA care, substance withdrawal, and surgical drain management
  • Previous charge nurse experience and community hospital background
  • Proficiency with electronic documentation and Pyxis medication system
