About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in profession License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: ACLS BLS TNCC or TCAR NIHSS 6 hours total of Stroke education (may be provided if needed) EKG course completion (may be provided if needed) Must-Have: Previous Charge Experience: 2 years Patient Ratio Experience: 2-3 patients Description: The Registered Nurse will work in the Intensive Care Unit. Start date within the next 3-5 weeks is preferred. The position requires floating to Medical-Surgical/Telemetry if the ICU has low census. Ratios in such situations will be 5-6:1. Core skills include arterial line management, chest tube insertion and removal assistance, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, and care of ventilated patients. Experience in central line care and management is essential. Nursing responsibilities also include managing chronic and acute renal failure. Knowledge in continuous IV paralytics, neuromuscular blockade, and continuous IV sedation is required. Candidates should be proficient in CVA and acute stroke management. Essential skills involve administration of emergency medications and management of external ventricular drains. Experience in monitoring FloTrac/Vigileo and managing GI surgery cases is preferred. Nurses should understand hypothermia protocol and ICP monitoring. Experience in infection prevention and interpretation of arterial blood gases is also necessary. Knowledge of dysrhythmia interpretation and isolation precautions/PPE is required. Candidates must be familiar with IV insulin protocols, lumbar drains, and management of dysrhythmias. Skills in caring for patients with multisystem organ dysfunction and failure are critical. Experience in neuro intensive care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, and post-cardiac surgery management is a plus. Post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgery management skills are preferred. Experience with pre/post-cardiac catheterization interventions and procedural sedation administration and monitoring is required. Sheath removal experience and knowledge in transcatheter aortic valve replacement are also valuable. Nurses should have experience with traumatic brain injury and ventilator management. Patient populations include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The daily patient census averages 15 in a 20-bed unit. Interdisciplinary support is provided by various teams including IV therapy, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Flexibility for weekend coverage is necessary. Compliance with required credentials is expected.
