About the Position
Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active RN License Certifications: TNCC, ENPC or PALS, ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Compassion, urgency, and teamwork are extremely important. Level II or Level III trauma experience is required. Description: Number of beds: 16 with 8 hall chairs. Number of staff: 6-7 per shift. Staff composition: Day shift includes 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 4-5 nurses (one mid-shift), 1 Unit Secretary, and 1-2 techs. Night shift comprises 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 4-5 nurses (one mid-shift), a Unit Secretary from 7 PM to midnight, and 1 tech. Patient ratios are 1:4, focusing on low acuity cases ESI 4 and 5, with the possibility of receiving ESI 6. Type of equipment used includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, HPs, Tonopen, and more. The electronic medical record system is Meditech, and vital signs flow into the chart. Typical procedures performed include assessments, documentation, medication administration, wound care, splinting, IVs, urine collection, and lab draws. Responsibilities include care for patients classified as ESI 5 through 1. Dress code: Scrub color is preferred to be royal blue. On Sundays, seasonal team spirit attire, such as team jerseys, is encouraged. Unit guidelines require mandatory attendance at shift huddles at 7 AM and 7 PM, unless providing critical care at that time. EMTALA training is mandatory for all staff. Recognition initiatives include climbing the ranks in patient satisfaction and employee engagement, as well as providing timely care for stroke, STEMI, sepsis, and trauma patients. The unit is transitioning from a Level IV to a Level II trauma hospital. This presents an exciting opportunity for staff to engage with new equipment and technology.
