This unit consists of 30 beds, with a ratio of 6:1 for acute care and 4:1 for neuro stepdown patients. Staffing includes a Charge Nurse, 1-2 Technicians, and a unit secretary. Common equipment used includes vital sign machines, high-flow oxygen, chest tubes, and various drips for acute care. In the neuro stepdown area, you will work with Vapotherm, Bipap, Trachs, and titrating cardiac drips. Documentation is performed using Meditech. Weekend shifts are required, and experienced nurses may float to other areas after orientation. We emphasize patient experience through bedside shift reports, personal connections, and daily huddles. Certifications required include BLS for acute care and both BLS and ACLS for neuro stepdown. The dress code allows for black, various shades of blue or gray, and any color scrubs on designated days. We offer recognition programs such as ICARE and employee of the month. This unit is a great starting point for those looking to advance to ICU roles.
