About the Position

Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Licensed Practical Nurse Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 guaranteed hours Experience: Minimum Years of Experience: N/A License: Must be licensed in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license is required Must-Have: - Graduate from an approved school of nursing with a certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the performance of basic nursing duties. This includes execution of physician orders, operation of pill call, and operation of sick call. The nurse assists the physician in examinations and treatments. They perform technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their license. The nurse applies appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. They attend sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents. The nurse prepares a list of inmates/residents to be examined and prepares the examining room and equipment. They operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required by applicable policies and procedures. The nurse controls medication, syringes, and other medical supplies or equipment. They are responsible for inventory as required by established procedures. Emergency procedures are performed as needed. The nurse keeps equipment and the work area clean, utilizing appropriate sanitation methods. Documentation and reporting of activities are completed in accordance with established policies and procedures. Job Responsibilities: The nurse assists the supervisor with evaluating the provision of all medical services. They maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Observation and recording of inmate/resident behavior are part of their duties. The nurse inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband. They securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment as needed. The nurse assists with preparing and maintaining a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records. This includes filing, alphabetizing, and labeling; reviewing reports and records produced on the shifts. Proper processing of all reports and documents in a timely manner is required. The nurse reads, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents. Effective communication is necessary to interact with administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and the general public. The nurse helps evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements necessary for a safe working environment. Facilitating accreditation of the medical program by providing required medical services may be necessary. Preparation and dissemination of safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures. The nurse takes appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies. They escort inmates/residents or coordinate their movements for medical treatment. Initiating and completing investigations and inquiries as directed is part of their role. Exercising independent judgment to determine when probable cause exists is essential. The nurse engages in functions in confined areas, working rotating shifts and verifying security measures. Awareness of potential verbal abuse from inmates/residents is required.
