About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2+ years of CVICU/Open Heart Experience License: Active RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - Previous charge experience is preferred - Experience with Epic charting system is preferred - Travel experience is required Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. This role involves working three 12-hour day shifts from 07:00 to 19:30. The nurse will provide care for patients undergoing cardiac surgery, including CABG and valve procedures. Patient diagnoses include STEMI, NSTEMI, AFIB with RVR, and cardiogenic shock. Vascular procedures such as peripheral bypasses and EVAR will also be involved. The nurse will be responsible for immediate post-operative care for cardiac surgery patients. A 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio will be maintained for the first 12 hours post-surgery. Ventilator management will be supported by respiratory therapy. Skills required include arterial line management, central line care, and management of ventilated patients. The role requires comfort in floating to intermediate care as needed. Floating may occur to sister units and lower acuity areas. Every other weekend and holiday shifts may be required as scheduled. The candidate must be capable of managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction. Interpretation of arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias is necessary. The nurse will assist with chest tube insertion/removal and be involved in blood product administration. Infection prevention and isolation precautions must be adhered to as part of patient care. Candidates must be proficient in the care of patients receiving continuous IV sedation and paralytics.
