About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:45 - 19:15 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Stepdown experience Telemetry experience Description: Primary patient population includes cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery patients. Procedures include open heart surgery, thoracic lung surgery, esophagogastrectomy, and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Patients may also have diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block. Total of 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds available. Approximately 100 staff members support the unit. Day shift staffing includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, and 4 PCTs. Night shift staffing includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, and 4 PCTs. Patient ratios are 1:5 for RNs and 1:13 for PCTs. Equipment includes IV pumps, epidural pumps, and various lifts. EMR utilized is Cerner. Candidates must have stepdown and telemetry experience. Preferred candidates will have experience with cardiac surgery and vascular surgery populations within the past year. Experience in CVICU is also preferred. Typical procedures performed include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, and cardiac medication management. Ideal personality traits include being a team player, enjoying a fast-paced environment, and being flexible. No call required; minimum weekend shifts of 6 are expected in a 6-week schedule period. Flexibility to work holidays is also required.
