About the Position

Job Title: RN - Med/Surg Profession: RN - Med/Surg Specialty: RN - Med/Surg Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Preferred experience on Med/Surg floor License: Current RN license required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Must-Have: Associate Degree or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred Description: Located amongst the oak trees, the facility has been serving the community since 1977. Comprised of a 122-bed acute care facility, our team provides exceptional care in emergency medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics, digestive disorders, wound care, and various medical, surgical, and outpatient services. Job Summary: Orients to the planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients on the medical/surgical unit. This position orients to the care of age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Includes care planning, vital signs, medication dosages, physiological changes, and psychosocial needs. Orients to the supervising and delegating of care responsibilities to ancillary personnel. Essential Functions: Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Is competent in all routine nursing skills, including medication administration, intravenous therapy, care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains, and safe use of medical equipment. Provides for age-related physiological, emotional, and cognitive needs of patient populations, including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, as well as those with disabilities. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with health care team members and provides care based on that plan. Is competent in epidural management, care of acute post-operative wounds, sterile technique, and assessment of vascular patency. Educates patients and/or their families regarding care using appropriate teaching methods based on age, condition, culture, and assessed learning-readiness of the patient. Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluates effectiveness of care performed. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of the patient's response to medications, treatments, and procedures. Consistently performs necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care, services, and unit operations. Is open to change and reaching new goals for the unit. Efficiently uses downtime for job-related work, including chart auditing, cleaning, and restocking. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Organizational Requirements: The facility is committed to the safety and wellbeing of associates and patients.
