Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: One year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license required Must-Have: - Graduate from an accredited college, university or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing - Current licensure in the state of employment Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting with examinations and treatment. The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates/residents. They perform all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their education and licensure. The RN attends sick calls to see inmates/residents, prepares a list of inmates/residents to be examined, and prepares examining rooms and equipment. They operate pill calls, dispense medication, and document as required by applicable policies and procedures. The RN communicates with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders and manages emergencies. They examine and assess new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries and refer them to appropriate healthcare facilities when necessary. Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and the RN notifies Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders. The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. The RN monitors inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate. They provide guidance, supervise, and monitor nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff. Maintaining good working relationships with facility staff and contract providers is essential. The RN utilizes established corporate and facility policies and procedures in decision-making while applying sound independent judgment. Regular evaluations of medical services are conducted to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of services. All medical records must be kept secure and confidential. The RN aids the Health Service Administrator in reviewing medical files to ensure all provided services are documented. The RN closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses. They audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary. Compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances, is mandatory. The RN observes and records inmate/resident behavior and inspects the medical unit for possible contraband. Health counseling and education are provided individually or in groups as required. The RN assists with standard records, reports, and logs using proper grammar and processes all reports in a timely manner. Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures are essential. The RN reviews and responds to lawsuits and attends court hearings when necessary. Facilitating accreditation of the medical program by providing approved medical services is required. Safety and accident reports must be prepared according to policies and procedures. Appropriate actions must be taken in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
