Description: The Emergency Room Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing medical emergencies. This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment. ER RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for a wide range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies. Key responsibilities include conducting thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms. RNs prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition, ensuring that critical cases are attended first. They administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as per physician orders. Emergency procedures such as wound care and splinting are also performed. Continuous monitoring of patients' vital signs and response to treatments is essential, with adjustments made as needed. Collaboration with the medical team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff, is crucial. Accurate documentation of patient information, treatment plans, and responses to care is required in electronic health records or paper charts. Providing patients and families with information regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions is an important aspect of the role. RNs respond to rapid response calls, code blue situations, or any critical situation requiring immediate intervention. They ensure that patients' rights, dignity, and preferences are respected at all times while providing care. Following all infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff is a responsibility of the position. Participation in the ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggesting improvements in processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes is expected. Emergency Room Registered Nurses support the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. They may be floated to other departments where they are qualified to perform patient care before core staff is floated. Other related duties as assigned may be required. Physical requirements include the ability to perceive sounds, express ideas verbally, perceive visual information, and perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving objects. Capable of working long shifts, often 12 hours, in high-stress demanding situations. Working conditions involve exposure to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergency departments operate 24/7.
