About the Position
Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-Surg Adult Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7 AM - 7 PM Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current nursing license in Maine or compact Certifications: BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred Must-Have: - Ability to problem solve - Critical thinking skills - Effective verbal and written communication skills - Knowledge base to include nursing assessment and skills for all age groups - Current immunizations required: - Varicella: 2 doses or titer - Hepatitis B: 3 doses or titer or declination - MMR: 2 doses or titer - Tdap - PPD: 2 step or titer within past 12 months - Flu shot required during flu season Description: The role requires performing initial age-appropriate nursing assessments. You will complete ongoing age-appropriate reassessments. Discharge assessments will be necessary to identify patient needs. Identifying priorities for the delivery of nursing care is essential. You will develop and implement a plan of care based on patient needs and physician orders. Executing appropriate nursing actions to reach patient goals is expected. You will communicate patient care activities to health care team members. Updates on current status and any changes in the care plan need to be communicated to the health care team. Documentation of patient care activities must adhere to established standards and policies. You will initiate specialty/supplemental nursing notes as appropriate. Assisting with patient charges will be part of your responsibilities. Patient care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policies and within the scope of the state Nursing Practice Act. Maintaining a physical environment that supports patient and staff safety and wellness is required. You will ensure that supplies and equipment are readily available and in safe working order. Reporting situations involving questionable safety or legality promptly to the nursing manager is necessary. Demonstrating knowledge and skills to implement procedures in emergencies is expected. You should have knowledge of drug administration and its effects. Utilizing appropriate drug reference sources for drug information is important. Administering drugs correctly while adhering to the five rights through medication verification is required. Evaluating patient responses to medications is essential. Assessing the need for patient and family education should be performed, with teaching provided as indicated. Completing discharge plans and ensuring patient and family understanding of them is necessary. Follow-up calls to patients will be part of the responsibilities. Ongoing assessment of nursing care throughout the shift is required. Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and rounding with providers and case managers is expected. Promoting professionalism and enhancing the organization through behavior is essential. Active participation in quality improvement initiatives and reporting quality issues in service delivery is necessary. You are expected to contribute to emergency and disaster preparedness planning and drills. Participation in the hospital's response during real-life emergencies is required within the scope of professional and personal ability.
