About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Critical Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a related nursing specialty preferred License: RN License in state of employment or compact Certifications: BLS certification from AHA required ACLS certification from AHA required Must-Have: Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Impellas, post-op cardiovascular surgeries, CRRT Description: This position offers 36 or 48 hours per week guarantees. Overtime is not billable until after 48 hours. The typical patient population on this unit includes those with DKA, acute respiratory failure, myocardial infarctions, CABG surgeries, and those on ventilators. It is a mixed cardiac and medical ICU. The competent nurse practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. They provide routine and complex care with the ability to work towards long-range goals or plans. The nurse continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. They make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers as a means to help manage the clinical situation. The nurse meets expectations of applicable competencies: leader of self, leader of others, or leader of leaders. Consistent with the nursing scope and standards of practice, they provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. They address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their level of practice. Using the appropriate protocols, the nurse administers medications and treatments, monitors for side effects and effectiveness of the prescribed treatment. They document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given. The nurse assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifying issues and resources. All newly hired experienced RNs must attend a New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial onboarding requirements are validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and a Critical Care Department-specific competency validation. Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is expected. One year of experience in a critical care setting is preferred but new graduates will be considered. Work hours are 7 PM to 7 AM. This is a full-time position. The typical patient population on the unit consists of individuals with DKA, acute respiratory failure, MIs, CABGs, and those on ventilators. This is a mixed cardiac and medical ICU. A temporary permanent position possibility is not available.
