Location: Mercer, PA

Pay: $55 per hour
Shift Information: Rotating - 5 days x 8 hours
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Start Date: ASAP

About the Position

Job Type: Contract (12+ Months)

Shift Details:

• Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
• Night Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
• Float position covering open shifts as needed
• Every other weekend assignment required
• Approximately 40 hours/week

Job Description:

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to provide professional nursing care and treatment services within a Commonwealth correctional facility. The RN will support individuals with mental or physical illness, behavioral health needs, and developmental disabilities. The nurse may function as a Charge Nurse, Staff Nurse, or Assessment Coordinator while ensuring quality patient care and compliance with nursing standards.

Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care and treatment to patients/residents in a correctional setting.
• Perform patient assessments and develop appropriate care plans.
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies according to orders.
• Monitor patient conditions and communicate changes to providers.
• Serve as Charge Nurse by coordinating nursing activities and staff utilization.
• Manage supplies, equipment, and patient care resources.
• Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records.
• Participate in infection control, quality improvement, and risk management activities.
• Perform comprehensive physical and mental health assessments.
• Follow established nursing protocols and safety standards.
• Provide emergency care including airway management and first aid.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

Required Clinical Skills:

• Medication administration and dosage calculations.
• IV therapy and venipuncture.
• Catheter insertion and catheter care.
• Wound care and sterile technique.
• Vital signs and full-body assessments.
• EKG and glucometer usage.
• Oxygen administration and airway management.
• Enteral feeding and NG tube care.
• Tracheostomy and ostomy care.
• Neurological checks and mental health assessments.
• Emergency response procedures.

Work Environment:

• Correctional healthcare facility setting.
• Must be able to work independently and adapt to changing patient care needs.
• Position requires adherence to professional nursing standards and facility policies.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
• Ability to document patient information in electronic medical records.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience providing nursing care in correctional, behavioral health, or institutional settings preferred.

Required Certification:

• Active RN License (Pennsylvania)
• Current CPR/BLS Certification preferred
