About the Position
Job Title: Med/Surg Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active Registered Nurse license required Certifications: American Heart Association certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS required Must-Have: Must have a valid RN license. Must have ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications attached to the submission. Description: Med/Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities include coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. Prepare and administer medications via oral, subcutaneous, or IV routes and record prescribed medications. Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with policies regarding medication administration by licensed nurses. Educate patients on surgical procedures. Record patients' medical information and vital signs. Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients and interpret and record electronic displays. Initiate corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology. Provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients. Initiate patient education plans as prescribed by physicians. Teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury by explaining post-treatment home care needs. Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs. Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments. Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols. Participate in discharge planning. Utilize time management skills. Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on the assignment setting.
