Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Family Maternity Services Duration: 20 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years License: Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License in state of practice or compact Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Must-Have: Patient Care Labor and Delivery Nursing Postpartum Nursing Nursery Care Antepartum Nursing Description: Rural OB/GYN department staff provide care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, gynecology, and nursery Level I and II patients. If such experience is not available, experienced labor/delivery nurses will be considered. The Registered Nurse is a healthcare professional skilled in all phases of the nursing process. The RN is adaptable to the needs of the family unit during health and illness and has the ability to prioritize. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates daily patient care and is responsible for the direction of personnel assigned to them. The RN will provide professional nursing care for patients in labor, delivery, postpartum, nursery, antepartum, and gynecology patients according to established standards and practices. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies plans of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand the knowledge base. The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN recognizes norms for the population receiving care and can identify abnormal conditions and report them to the physician. The RN assists with orientation, instruction/training, and supervision of staff members as assigned. The RN performs proper procedures for the use of fetal heart monitors (external/internal). The RN performs proper techniques for conducting vaginal exams and is able to assess position, dilation, and station. The RN understands the principles, administration, maintenance, and adverse effects of tocolytic agents in antepartum patients. The RN performs comfort measures as needed for the patient. The RN is efficient in the role of circulating nurse for vaginal delivery. The RN participates in the transferring of maternal patients to other facilities per ambulance. The RN instructs patients in skills of perineal care, breast care, proper diets, and post-delivery/surgical activity.
