February 10, 2015 Hospital with a fun mix of coworkers.Small State Hospital I liken to working with a large, fun family. Spent more time with coworkers than family, we made it a positive environment.Worked an 8 hour day, had a patient assignment of approx. 8-10. Passed medications, did treatments, and documented in Meditech on my patients. Depending on the floor assignment, I may have had trach care, tube feedings, wound care of varying degrees, and IV medications. I spent my first rotation in Nursing School at this hospital and was fortunate enough to have created a bond with staff and patients. Finding myself working here after graduation, was good Karma! The charge nurse role was divided by my RN coworkers on a rotating basis. I learned quickly how to become a leader and kept the floor running as smoothly as possible.Management was very supportive. We all worked together for the betterment of the patients. The most difficult aspect of the job was the sometimes violent patients we treated. Some were in shackles, came to us accompanied by other staff, anywhere from 1-4, for our safety. This environment was the catalyst for my learning, much more than I could have imagined. We had many difficult patients which I quickly managed to deal with in a positive manner. The most enjoyable part of the day was making quality time with a patient, who may have had no family or visitors. |

May 01, 2013 A very productive workplaceI enjoyed a lot caring for patients, It is rewarding that the members of the health team have a strong and pleasant working relationship. Really, a center of excellence in the care of patients with acute and long-term conditions. |
December 13, 2012 Good experience working with adults with severe mental illnesses in the rehab unit of inpatient hospitalVery educative experience to work with adults with severe mental illnesses and dual-diagnoses. Had a lot of freedom to experience providing group and individual therapy in my training. Very good supervision. There was, however, a good deal of tension among staff in this state-funded hospital due to employee cuts. |
