Fast paced environment with many learning opportunities

Typical day at work includes administering medications and assisting doctors with a variety of procedures at bedside. The day also includes continuous monitoring while traveling to various parts of the hospital with patients for certain procedures such as cat scan or interventional radiology. This career has a continuous learning environment due to the wide variety of doctors and medical staff. The nurses collaborate with fellows, interns, residents, medical students and staff to provide care for the patients. In this icu setting the co-workers are very friendly and helpful towards each other. Its like a family enviroment with all of the staff and co-workers. The hardest part of the job is the shortage of staff. When adequate staff is available for the unit for the day, there is possibility that the staff may be pulled to help out with another unit. Resulting in our unit becoming short. The most enjoyable part of the job has to be the great learning environment with a wide array of patient cases allowing never to have a dull moment on the unit.
