Overworked, unhappy, angry nurses outweigh those with positive attitudes; no teamwork between nurses and physicians.

Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Many of MDs are disrespectful, don't supervise residents and medical students appropriately. As a result, nurses often put in position of 'supervising' residents, then get in trouble with MDs when things don't go well. Management in general very hands-off, very little understanding of nursing as a profession, and very much under thumb of MDs. Care is inconsistent and often borders on poor. Little leadership exhibited at any level of the hospital. I would transport a baby out of the central valley before I would let him/her be admitted here.

Long work day, few breaks, some lazy professionals

The intensity of an 8-hour day depends on the patient acuity, the laziness of some professionals, and the willingness of co-workers to pitch in and work as a team when needed. The company is not worth going back to work for secondary to high staff turnover.

Poor communication between staff and upper management

Heavy assignments but with good organizational skills can be done. Management often does not hold staff accountable for on-going education especially for changes in policy. Enjoyable part of the job is the challenge of the critically ill patients. Hardest part of the job is there is no support from above and behind what evidence based practice advises, so it can be very frustrating keeping up with what other hospitals are doing in current practice.
