poor support of staff

Management will micromanage you out the door. Very punitive environment with no room for staff oppinions. Abusive or rude families are allowed to treat staff poorly, leadership doesnt support the staff in a culture of compassion or respect. Backstabbing is abundent, & professional sabotage is tolerated. Policies related to employment not readily available, floor policies change consistently yet documents related to this are never available to review. Worst computerized charting in the metro area. Minimal to no raises past 3 years, mandatory cancelations due to decreasing census, this has depleted staff vacation time available, yet despite this supposed financial crunch middle management continues to work a full time schedule.

Truly a leader in healthcare in St. Louis

I work night shift so my work day is not a typical one. The staff members are nice and helpful. Every nursing floor has their own identity and culture, which can be a gift and a curse. The executive team is very forward thinking. Missouri Baptist Medical Center has been a great addition to the BJC healthcare system.

Safety and Quality of Patient care is top priority

A typical day at work went: Report from off going nurse, check previous shift vitals and lab work, head-to-toe assessment, medication pass, I&O charting, check vital signs, Chart assessments, check charts, and fill out care plans. Frequent admissions sprinkled in as well as discharges. I learned that I enjoy working in a hospital setting, I also attended classes on Evidence Based Practice and my project was accepted to go to a state-wide conference. My co-workers were an amazing bunch of people, I could always depend on them to assist me if I were in a bind, and I enjoyed helping them if they needed anything. The hardest part of any hospital job, of course, is the admission process. Though it was always very rewarding to see someone you admitted feel better and be able to go home!

Enjoyable work environment

vitals, glucose checks, working with the nurses and doctors, by assisting with getting supplies or helping packing wounds. Seeing patients well enough to return home was so rewarding. Hardest part is saying good-bye. Co-workers were so family oriented and friendly.
