December 20, 2012 Excellent learning experienceA typical day at work starts with morning report of patients. Then the two nurses pull narcotics from a lock box and each start their morning med pass. When that is done then I perform treatments on my assigned patients such as trach care, creams, and dressing changes. Then usually it is time for the second afternoon med pass. When that is finished both nurses look through charts and take of any orders that have been written by the NP/MD. Through the day we make rounds on patients every couple of hours. The last thing to be done is charting progress notes on patients and reporting to the next shift any concerns. If I am on patient assignment/direct care that day I am handed a care card sheet with a list of patients I am responsible for. I do daily AM care on them such as a bed bath and dressing them and transferring them in to their wheelchair. I provide all care for them that day. |
