behind the times

Unfortunately, it feels as though Reading Hospital is more concerned about money than patients and employees. There is no consistency in patient care, what qualifies a patient for admission, how an admission is completed, or if a patient has recovered enough to be discharged. Accountability is also inconsistent depending on who a staff member is friends with. The level of staff education, including the doctors, as seen by the treatment modalities available to patients, is behind by approximately 10 years. Even though I am currently employed by this hospital, and therefore my insurance requires I go there for treatment, I prefer to go somewhere else. ER physicians have lied to me about test results. Surgeons have fallen behind in basic post-surgical care, requiring me to have more medications and a longer length of stay. The Employee Health physician has required continuation of medication that was stopped by prescribing physicians to be eligible to continue working. There have been major business changes in the hospital in the last five years, but they need a major overhaul in care and education.

Organized, Provide great healthcare!

I was in float pool, so I mostly sat in 1:1 observations for patients that were suicide risks or safety risks. I took vitals, checked blood sugars, washed patients, ambulated patients and helped with other ADLS. I learned very fast that its important to plan your day out in order to get everything done in a timely manner. The co-workers for the most part were great. There was very rarely a co-worker that I did not get along with. The hardest part was dealing with acting out patients or being under staffed.

Internship

Working with great and helpful people. I learned some of the jobs in the business office. Management was not as involved with any follow up with me or the trainers. Understanding the differences in the jobs with little explanation was an issue. Totally enjoyed working with the people in the office.

Productive and fun place to work!

A typical day at the Reading Hospital for me was the multi-tasking through several different jobs which requires interacting with my co-workers to get certain jobs completed throughout the day. The hardest part of the job required my full concentration because we was handling sensitive material. The most enjoyable part of the day was when I registered, ordered and delivered all specimens it was helping patients with their healthcare.
