Very fast paced office and very productive

I worked as a PRN Mammographer performing screening and diagnostic Mammograms. Also I did DEXA scans for patients on a daily basis. Overall the job was fine just left to seek permanent employment instead of PRN. Co-workers were easy to work with and everyone helped each other out when we could. Hardest part of the job was when the patient was difficult to work with. I enjoyed the staff I worked with and still have friends that work there.

Bariatric Coordinator

I do preop and post op calls to bariatric surgical patients. I round on each surgical patient every day, check their labs, progress notes and orders. I communicate their plan of care to them daily and ask them to evaluate the nurses' care. I give them discharge teaching and some free samples when they go home. I also am co-chair of the Bariatric Committee and the Service Excellence Committee. I oversee the Bariatric Support Group once a month. I coordinate with the bariatric surgeons' offices and various departments in the hospital to comply with the requirements of the ASMBS for the Bariatric Center of Excellence. I also am responsible for updating the Weight Loss web site and the Bariatric Guidebook. I am required to keep the patient data base for ASMBS to 80% accuracy for all bariatric surgical patients. I also keep excel spreadsheets on all the patients and the support groups for the hospital. I give updates to the Surgery Department and the Quality Management meetings. I have to be proficient in operating all bariatric equipment throughout the hospital. I follow up on consults for the bariatric coordinator from physicians who are caring for other obese patients. I have learned that coordination of care is essential for this population especially postoperatively to reduce readmissions and complications. The hardest part of my job is receiving support from management for changes in requirements for the COE. The most enjoyable part of my job is the interaction with the patients and the Bariatric Support Group. These patients are very motivated and are willing to change their lifestyles to accomplish their goals.

The people were awesome to work with.

A typical day at work was super busy to the point that you just thought about having a job whereby the workload was actually enough for one person rather than for two. In addition to that, one feels like they are literally rushing from the first hour to the 12th, and even after shift change, there were some later nights to catch up on the charting that wasn't finished. That was the hardest part of the job. The best part of this job was my coworkers. They were great people who had a team mentality. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to care for that occasional patient who was thankful for the care provided to them.
