    General Information:


    Beds: 64

    Required experience?


    PCU Level RN: 1 year of nursing experience required



    Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, if greater than 1 year of experience


    1st time traveler MUST have EPIC experience



    Travelers must live 100 miles away from any Monument Health facility

    Permanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as a traveler



    Patient Types:


    This is a mixed acuity unit meaning there will be Intermediate Care acuity as well as Tele and MedSurg - please ensure traveler understands

    Pre/post-surgical patients, CVA, seizures, cellulitis, influenza, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure with or without the need for hemodialysis, hepatic failure, gastrointestinal disorders and infections, soft tissue injury and minor fractures, and DVTs. Medication administration, titratable vasoactive drips, TPN/tube feeding, and blood product transfusions

    Peripheral IV, Midline, PICC and central line access, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, drains, and urinary and fecal collection devices

    Wound care, telemetry monitored patients

    Post neuro-intervention (preferred experience but education and resources are provided per unit if they have not had this patient type)



    Patient Ratios:


    RN:


    PCU: 1:4-5



    CNA: 1:8



    Required Certifications:


    RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS



    Required Education:


    RN: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing;  Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing



    Skills required:


    PCU RN:


    Comfortability to take MedSurg assignments - please decline if not

    Previous experience with our types of patients above, including IMC/stepdown and neuro; ability to read/interpret cardiac strips, wound care, line management, drain/tube management, drip titration of below medications

    Drip Titration: most commonly - Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), occasionally esmolol drips (will train if traveler has not done these) or other Betablockers or other antihypertensives





    Support on the Unit:


    CNA: 1:8

    Charge nurse: Two charge nurses for ONS that do not take a patient load

    Phlebotomy? Yes

    IV/VAT Team? No

    Resource Nurse during Dayshift/varied hours - Nurse Clinician support available

    RT:  Yes

    Hospitalist: Yes



    Charting System:


    Epic - strongly preferred; must get approval from Manager prior to offer

    Alaris

    Omnicell



    Floating:


    Any Adult Inpatient Unit - Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, Observation

    Could be floated within scope of practice and below

    Will float in rotation with other travelers



    Orientation: (facility and unit)


    2 days of unit/department orientation including policies, protocols, department information, online learnings.  Also, classroom time with our Nursing Professional Development Team.

    2 orientation shifts on the unit working with a preceptor



    Scheduling:


    6-week schedules

    Weekend rotation: Travelers could be scheduled for up to 4 out of the 6 weekends, which include Friday, Saturday and Sunday


    Please include in offer if traveler is open to working every weekend (WOW) as this may be a possibility



    Will they be on call? No mandatory call time.  If it is an extra shift on top of their already guaranteed hours, and we have enough staff then they could be placed on call for that shift

    Holiday Expectations: must be RTO request prior to offer - at this time Holiday RTO is not being accepted

    Approval of time off? Able to approve 1.5 weeks off - must extend contract to accommodate a full 13-week contract


    Blackout dates from August 1-18th (exact dates change each year) due to our Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.  No time off is approved during this time.
