Purpose   The contractor shall provide Registered Nurses non-personal healthcare services for the following Albuquerque Area Indian Health Service Facility:                   Zuni Service Unit                 Route 301 North B Street                 Zuni, New Mexico 87327   Background Information   The Zuni Service Unit is located in a very rural area and provides outpatient and inpatient (including obstetrics) nursing services to Native American and Alaska Native patients. Due to the isolation and rural location, recruitment/retention is a chronic problem along with the increase in patient load in all areas. In order to provide the patients with safe continued quality care; there is a need to acquire nurses through a nursing agency.   Description of Service/Supplies   The contractor shall provide Registered Nurses non-personal healthcare services on an as need basis with the following specifications: ·        The contractor shall provide nursing services required for rotation for day and night shifts, and weekends; this includes Federal Holidays.   Obstetrics Unit ·        Obtain patient history, develop nursing diagnosis and plan of care; implement and maintain plan of care ·        Carry out physician orders ·        Measure and assess vital signs including blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, height, weight and pain ·        Manage a variety of medical devices including but not limited to IV pumps, Electronic Fetal Monitor, EKG, Panda Warmer, vital signs monitor, suction cardiac telemetry, cardiac defibrillator, etc. ·        Provide direct patient care including assist with activities of daily living ·        Monitor and evaluate mother and fetus during labor and delivery, interpret fetal monitor strips and initiate appropriate interventions ·        Administer medications including blood products, and/or therapeutic treatments as prescribed utilizing a variety of modalities including but not limited to oral, intravenous, intramuscular, topical, rectal, vaginal, transdermal, subcutaneous, etc. ·        Monitor and titrate medications specific to use in the Obstetrics Unit such as but not limited to magnesium sulfate, oxytocin, methergine, hemabate, Cytotec, etc. ·        Observe and document changes in the patient’s condition including response to medications and/or therapeutic treatments; notify physician of adverse patient effects ·        Document utilizing the Electron Health Record or other facility approved forms ·        Recognize urgent/emergent conditions in the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum and newborn patients such as pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, hemorrhage, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH), Hemolysis Elevated Liver Enzymes and Low Platelet Count (HELLP) Syndrome , newborn respiratory disorders and initiate appropriate actions ·        Complete unit specific Quality Control checks; notify Charge Nurse and/or Supervisory Clinical Nurse of out-of-range QC’s ·        Collect patient specimens such as but not limited to blood, urine, stool, cultures, etc. ·        Recognize and appropriately react to life-threatening emergencies (Code Blue); initiate and maintain resuscitative measures ·        Respond to facility Codes 9 Pink, Red, Yellow, Black, Silver) and take appropriate actions to specific code   Services will be ordered on an as needed basis ·        Assignments will be in the Obstetrics Unit. ·        This position requires rotation of shifts (day and night). Work includes weekends and Federal Holidays. ·        Adheres to facility and/or Indian Health Service policies and procedures; and regulations and/or standards from accrediting and/or regulating agencies such as the Joint Commission, Centers for Medicaid and Medicare, etc. ·        Provides a full range of professional nursing care and/or services to the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. ·        Utilizes the nursing process to assesses, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care and/or services. ·        Administers a wide variety of prescribed medications and therapeutic treatments, and evaluates and documents effectiveness of same. ·        Collaborates with health care providers in providing quality care; develops and maintains nursing care plan, participates in interdisciplinary rounds; initiates referrals as needed to other health disciplines/entities. ·        Assists medical provider with patient exams, splint/cast application, suturing and biopsy. ·        Utilizes effective communication skills in interactions with patients, visitors, vendors and staff. ·        Operates specialized equipment such as cardiac telemetry, lV pumps, Panda Warmer, electronic fetal monitor, EKG, cardiac defibrillator, ventilator, etc. ·        Upholds the lndian Health Service Mission to raise the physical, mental, social and spiritual health of the American lndian and Alaska Native to the highest level. ·        Respects the clinical opinions and viewpoints of staff and patients. ·        Adheres to HIPAA and Privacy Act.   Administrative Duties ·        Familiarize self with cultural, social, political, demographic, economic characteristics of the community. ·        Completes facility orientation and Indian Health Service required trainings. ·        A sixty (60) minute meal break is permitted under this contract.   Certification Factors for Registered Nurse ·        Possess a valid unrestricted RN Licensure from a state within the United Sates. ·        Must have documentation of relevant clinical nursing experience of at least one year (within the past twelve months) in the specialty area to which applying. For instance, an obstetrics Registered Nurse must have at least one year of recent experience in labor, delivery and postpartum. ·        Possess current American Heart Association Certifications for Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support, Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).   Health Requirements Contractor is responsible to furnish documentation that reflects immunity for indicated vaccine preventable disease, vaccination history, serology results, and/or documented events after vaccination. Any contractor who is allergic to a component of a vaccine and/or has a documented medical history of a severe reaction to a vaccine will not be required to receive that vaccine.
