This role combines technical leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder management, and team development within a highly matrixed environment. POSITION DETAILS Location: Salt Lake City, UT Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Work Arrangement: Hybrid (4 days in office, work from home Fridays) Industry: Medical Devices / Healthcare Technology Seniority Level: Mid-Senior Management Travel: Occasional Relocation Assistance: Available for ideal candidates Visa Sponsorship: Not Available COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Base Salary: $165,000 - $188,000 per year Bonus Eligible: Yes Benefits: Full Benefits Package Interview Travel Reimbursed: Yes Overtime Eligible: No KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Lead and develop teams of scientists, engineers, and technical professionals Drive materials selection, development, testing, and qualification programs Manage complex R&D and materials science projects across multiple business units Provide technical leadership for laboratory testing and material characterization activities Influence cross-functional stakeholders across R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Regulatory teams Support strategic planning and long-term innovation initiatives Ensure compliance with medical device standards and regulatory requirements REQUIREMENTS PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering (Materials Focus), or related scientific discipline Minimum 12 years post-graduate experience in materials science or related field PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Medical device industry experience Leadership of teams (6 8 direct reports) Minimum 3 years of people management experience Experience within large matrix organizations Record of publications, patents, or peer-reviewed research Advanced laboratory and technical troubleshooting expertise TECHNICAL EXPERTISE Materials characterization and analytical testing HPLC, DMA, TGA, FTIR, DSC SEM, EDX, AFM, XPS GPC, ICP-MS, Atomic Absorption NMR, Rheology, Cyclic Voltammetry Mechanical testing and laboratory methods ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Strong communication and stakeholder management skills required Proven problem-solving and leadership capabilities essential COVID-19 requirements may apply based on location and business needs Opportunity to influence innovation within a global healthcare technology environment
