Plugging Holes and Keeping The Pipeline Filled
The California Assembly has passed a bill that chips away at the nursing shortage in a way that may have some screaming about political correctness and affirmative action. The bill requires community colleges in the state to admit students to the Nursing degree programs based on merit. Apparently lottery admission programs and the like result in students that are more likely to drop out of the nursing program thus leaving a vacancy that a more qualified candidate could have filled.
Now there is a novel idea…keep the student in school once you get them in there. I know that this is a bitter pill for some California liberals but sometimes fairness (or alleged fairness) is not fair to the end user…the patient.
