It is not incredibly hard to dig yourself out of the geriatric field and get into Med Surg. Your best course of action would be to ask about the opportunity to work on another floor either at your full time position or on an assignment. If the hospital needs help in that area and has the time and budget to train you there, they will. You could also apply for that type of position for full or part time at a local facility. I do not recommend applying for a travel assignment in a specialty you do not have experience in because it is generally frowned upon and you will likely be declined. I hope this helps!
