Hi Shannon!
Great question! Health insurance benefits in travel nursing are provided through the staffing agency you contract with, and coverage options can vary from one agency to another.
Nurse-only coverage: Most agencies at minimum offer health insurance for the nurse.
Family coverage: Many agencies also give the option to add a spouse or dependents, but this usually comes with an additional cost that varies by provider.
Alternative option: Some travelers choose to take the agency’s stipend (instead of their insurance) and purchase their own health plan, especially if they need broader family coverage.
Since policies differ, the best step is to ask each agency what their insurance packages include and whether dependent coverage is available.
