If you ever had any doubt about whether the travel nursing lifestyle is fun and exciting, a reality show about it on MTV is a pretty good indication. Development of this new docu-series has been in the works since late last year and is set to premiere October 24 at 10/9c. Scrubbing In will follow nine travel nurses as they begin their 12-week adventure working at a hospital in Orange County, CA. The cast consists of a group of twenty-something nurses both new and accustomed to the travel lifestyle. The show will highlight their journey to establishing their new roles at the hospital, staying in touch with old friends, making new friends, and enjoying all the sites and activities the OC has to offer.
Known for highly dramatic reality shows such as The Real World, Laguna Beach, and The Jersey Shore, the fact that MTV is hosting the show isn’t without some concern. Many fear the nursing profession will be misrepresented and/or present false glamorization that takes away from the true spirit of nursing. While gaining nursing experience at highly regarded facilities in great locales is awesome and worth sharing—hookups, fights, and drunken stupors that are typical in the networks reality shows is not a good representation of the travel nursing lifestyle.
It’s still too soon to know exactly what we’re in for but one of the press releases reveals that “this group loves to blow off some steam during their downtime.” You can be sure we’ll be keeping tabs and hoping this show sends a positive message about the industry and profession.
