The unit typically experiences a turnover of 78 to 90 patients each week. A nurse with a 6-patient assignment may need to turn over their entire assignment frequently. A team lead is available to assist with admissions and discharges. This unit houses COVID-positive patients using Opti-flow and Bipap during surges. Telemetry and pulse oximetry equipment is used, along with high flow O2 for stable patients. No new BIPAP will be initiated for unstable patients, and certain restrictions apply to O2 administration.
