Description: As an integral member of the Nursing Leadership team, the RN Wound Ostomy Specialist acts as a resource person, consultant, educator and facilitator by collaborating with the entire Health Care Team for the prevention of pressure ulcers, providing expert consultative services related to ostomy care and other wound or skin integrity problems. The RN Wound Ostomy Specialist also provides clinical, educational and emotional support as appropriate to patients of all ages and their families related to ostomy care and skin integrity prevention and problems. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Acts as a resource person, consultant and facilitator on issues related to pressure ulcer prevention, ostomy care, complex wound care, and skin integrity issues, including clinical evaluation, assessment and recommendations to assure high quality care in collaboration with: Nursing Department Medical Staff Care Management Pharmacy Home care agencies Interdepartment sPatients, families and community Provides educational programs and resource materials as required/requested on issues related to pressure ulcer prevention/treatment/management, ostomy care, complex wound care and skin integrity issues to: Nursing Department Orientees/Students from Affiliated Schools Interdepartment Medical Staff Patients, families and community Prepares and provides statistical data related to areas of responsibility as requested (to internal departments and external agencies). Executes ostomy and complex wound care to patients, including but not limited to negative pressure wound systems, intra operative and postoperative care, and preoperative ostomy site marking.
