With a nursing shortage in full effect and the millennial generation beginning to make up a large portion of the nursing workforce, it’s important that you’re able to show your staff some recognition. While millenials are generally more inclined to seek recognition for his or her work, everyone loves a pat on the back every once in a while. While the majority of your staff realize that what they are doing is impacting many lives for the better, sometimes they need just a little piece of reassurance so they know they are appreciated. Luckily, there are a variety of different nurse recognition ideas that you can take advantage of. Check them out below!

5 Nurse Recognition Ideas

1. Public Recognition

One of the easiest ways to provide confidence within your staff and push them to perform at a high level is to recognize nurses who are going above and beyond in front of your whole staff. It sounds cheesy, but some of us just want people to know that we’re doing a good job. During your daily or weekly meetings with staff members, make sure to mention if a specific person is going above and beyond lately. This will not only make them feel good, but it will also push the rest of your staff to step up their game. You might even want to send an email out each week recognizing some of your staff members that have gone above and beyond. In such a busy environment, an email might be the best way to reach your staff. Public recognition ideas like these can go a long way but do not cost a dime.

2. A Day Trip

Although it might be difficult to organize, a group outing that shows how much you appreciate your staff is a great way to not only give recognition to all their hard work but to also promote team building and cooperation. Sometimes a day out of the office is all that your staff needs to get recharged and rekindle the dedication they have towards his or her career. It doesn’t have to be a lengthy trip, even something as small as taking a trip for ice cream or dinner after hours is a great way to show the rest of your staff how much they are appreciated.

3. Lunch

If getting out of the office isn’t an option, other nurse recognition ideas include bringing the party to your staff. Ordering pizza for lunch is a great way to show your appreciation for your staff while still being at work. Sometimes we need a little cheese, sauce, and dough to remind us that we’re appreciated. Lunch, or even an afternoon snack, are some nurse recognition ideas that are simple and easy, but will go a long way when it comes to showing your staff how much they are appreciated.

4. Scrubs

If you need more nurse recognition ideas, why not get them some new scrubs? Scrubs are one of the many benefits to working in the medical profession. The comfortable work attire is a major selling point, so why not reward them with a brand new pair of scrubs? Give them a gift card for them to get some new scrubs or even shoes so they can feel fresh and reenergized in their new clothes.

5. Let Employees Run The Show

Another way to recognize the hard work your nurses do is to show them how confident you are in them. Let them run a meeting for once and see how it goes. It’s important to instill confidence in your staff, so giving them more responsibility and letting them run a meeting and shift on their own is a great way to promote cooperation as well as let them know that you have full confidence in their ability to do their jobs.
