Travel Nurse RN - Progressive Care Unit - $2,443 per week in Redding, CA - Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience in a stepdown or PCU unit, training in telemetry. Description: The PCU is a stepdown unit from the ICU. It has a 3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio for closer monitoring of patients who do not quite meet the telemetry level of care. RNs should have experience in an ICU stepdown or PCU unit. Common diagnoses include stepdown patients from ICU, TBI/trauma patients, major surgery, CEA, and sepsis. Nurses will be required to titrate drips such as Precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, and levophed. The patient population requires knowledge of arterial and CVP pressure lines and titrating pressors. Most of the time, there is one aide for all 14 beds. Schedules are made approximately 2-3 weeks in advance and then organized for 9 weeks in advance. Self-scheduling is allowed for the most part. Weekend requirements include four weekend shifts within a four-week schedule. Holiday requirements will involve working into the permanent staff rotation. There is no call or standby requirement. Travelers should be self-motivated and team-oriented. The unit emphasizes effective teamwork and the patient experience. A strong understanding of HCAHPS and core measures is important. The unit is known for being traveler-friendly and has a close-knit team. The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is Cerner.
